I'd like to say that it takes talent to become "famous"... but that's only a piece of the puzzle, sadly... because there are tons people who are famous that don't have much talent, and there are some unbelievably talented artists that will never ever be famous or heard across the world... The name of this game, is "Connections" it's all about who you know and where you can get that "big break" from..
If you see me become "famous" in the next year or two, do you know what that will change? Only A few things:
How much money I have
how many people are listening to my music
how many people I can "tweet" to on twitter
how many people I can spread my joy to,
and lastly: how many people want to know what I eat for breakfast/what brand of toilet paper i use...
But do you know what it won't change? The fact that the music that made me famous, was already written and finished, while i was "un-famous".. So what does that mean? Fame doesn't "make you amazing", add talent or self-worth to your life, it just adds popularity, money and power.. it does not make you, and it can surely break you.. Famous people already had what ever it was that made them famous, BEFORE they were famous. Ergo, all the famous people that you idolize and look up too, were all "ordinary" before the big record label in the sky shot them to the stars...
I find it amusing how some people will knock other people down for trying to "make it" saying things like "You'll never do this, why are you wasting your time? You're just a dreamer... you'll never be as big as them..." These people are under the impression that every famous person was never an ordinary person.. They think famous people were born on f***ing "rockstar island" and automagically inducted into TV/Movie land... (an unobtainable place for everyone but the "chosen" ones...)
But the truth is, every famous person, was an ordinary person before their fame... Just like you.. The reason why some people can't comprehend that their brother or their friend can be the next John Mayer, is because TV (w/ the exception of American idol n' shows like that) doesn't show us the uphill battle of "making it".. all people see is the finished famous product, not the years of rejection and poverty and humiliation until the person finally gets their break... Can't show that on TV.. why? Because TV loves to make us think that Brad Pitt was born sexy on a movie set wearing sunglasses out of the womb..
There are future "rock stars" "movie stars" and public icons walking around in the same places as you, doing the same things you do, the only difference is..... NOTHING!! to quote a "famous" person, Regina Spektor:
"People are just people like you..."
and to quote another famous artist, from the same island as me, Ingrid Michaelson:
"we are all the same. we all poo. we all eat. we all sleep. we all cry. we all fear. we all love. we all need love. it's ok."
Summary: Fame doesn't make you talented, it just magnifies your music and the details of your life to everyone in the world ..
Woo!! What a rant... done in love of course, this is not a personal blog... every one believes in me... (thank you everyone..) but I've seen other people doubt other people, and I've just been pondering the phenomenon of fame this whole day, and those two things mixed together were the inspiration for this blog... If you know you have great talent and offer something that will deeply connect with people, and you believe in yourself, and you have secured the faith of the person who will give you that "big break"... then that's all you need to make it to "Rockstar Island" ;)
People are just People like you... We are all the same...
